"Constant" અને "continuous" બંને શબ્દોનો અર્થ થાય છે "નિરંતર" અથવા "ચાલુ રહેતું," પણ તેમનો ઉપયોગ થોડો અલગ છે. "Constant" એટલે કંઈક જે બદલાતું નથી, એક સરખું રહે છે. જ્યારે "continuous" એટલે કંઈક જે અવિરતપણે ચાલુ રહે છે, પણ તેની તીવ્રતા કે સ્વરૂપ બદલાઈ શકે છે. સરળ ભાષામાં કહીએ તો, "constant" સ્થિરતા દર્શાવે છે, જ્યારે "continuous" સતતતા દર્શાવે છે.

• Continuous: The rain fell continuously throughout the night. (રાતભર સતત વરસાદ પડતો રહ્યો.) Here, the rain is uninterrupted, but its intensity might have varied. It could have poured heavily at times and drizzled at others.

• Constant: He received constant encouragement from his teachers. (તેને તેના શિક્ષકો તરફથી સતત પ્રોત્સાહન મળતું રહ્યું.) The encouragement was unwavering and consistent.

• Continuous: She made continuous progress in her studies. (તેણીએ તેના અભ્યાસમાં સતત પ્રગતિ કરી.) The progress was ongoing, but the rate of progress may have varied.

બીજું એક ઉદાહરણ લઈએ: "A constant noise" (એક સતત અવાજ) એટલે એક એવો અવાજ જે બદલાતો નથી, જ્યારે "A continuous noise" (એક સતત અવાજ) એટલે એક એવો અવાજ જે અવિરત રીતે ચાલુ રહે છે, પણ તેની તીવ્રતા બદલાઈ શકે છે.
