ઘણીવાર, "indifferent" અને "apathetic" શબ્દો એકબીજા જેવા લાગે છે, અને બન્ને નકારાત્મક લાગણીઓ દર્શાવે છે. પણ, તેમની વચ્ચે નાનો પણ મહત્વનો તફાવત છે. • Apathetic: "She was apathetic about her studies and failed all her exams." (તેણી પોતાના અભ્યાસ પ્રત્યે ઉદાસીન હતી અને બધી પરીક્ષાઓમાં નાપાસ થઈ ગઈ.) Here, her lack of interest led to negative consequences. It’s a more serious lack of care.

• Indifferent: "I'm indifferent to the color of the wall; I don't mind either blue or green." (મને દીવાલનો રંગ ગમે તે ગમે છે; વાદળી કે લીલી, મને કોઈ વાંધો નથી.) A simple lack of preference.

• Apathetic: "He was apathetic to the plight of the homeless people in his city." (તે પોતાના શહેરમાં રહેતા ગરીબ લોકોની દયનીય સ્થિતિ પ્રત્યે ઉદાસીન હતો.) A serious lack of concern and empathy.

આમ, "indifferent" એ સામાન્ય ઉદાસીનતા દર્શાવે છે જ્યારે "apathetic" એ વધુ ગંભીર ઉદાસીનતા અને ઉત્સાહનો અભાવ દર્શાવે છે જે ઘણીવાર નકારાત્મક પરિણામો તરફ દોરી જાય છે.
