“Different” နှင့် “distinct” စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တခါတရံမှာ အလွန်တူညီတယ်လို့ ထင်ရပေမယ့် သူတို့ရဲ့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်မှာ ကွာခြားချက်ရှိပါတယ်။ “Different” ဆိုတာက အရာဝတ္ထုတွေ၊ လူတွေ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အခြေအနေတွေကြားက မတူညီမှုကို ဖော်ပြတဲ့ စကားလုံးပါ။ “Distinct” ကတော့ အရာဝတ္ထုတွေ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အယူအဆတွေကြားက ထင်ရှားတဲ့ ခွဲခြားမှု၊ သီးခြားမှုကို ပြောတာပါ။ အလွယ်တကူ ပြောရရင် “different” က broader term ဖြစ်ပြီး “distinct” က ပို specific ပါ။

ဥပမာ ကြည့်ရအောင် -

• Different: The two houses are different in size and color. (အိမ်နှစ်လုံးဟာ အရွယ်အစားနဲ့ အရောင်ကွဲပြားပါတယ်။)
• Distinct: The twins have distinct personalities. (အမွှာနှစ်ယောက်ဟာ စရိုက်လက္ခဏာ ကွဲပြားခြားနားပါတယ်။)

ဒီဥပမာမှာ “different” က အရွယ်အစားနဲ့ အရောင်ဆိုတဲ့ specific differences တွေကို ပြောနေတာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ သူတို့က အချင်းချင်း မတူကြဘူးလို့ general ပြောနေတာပါ။ “distinct” မှာတော့ personality ဆိုတဲ့ specific aspect ကို ထောက်ပြပြီး သူတို့က တစ်ယောက်နဲ့တစ်ယောက် သိသိသာသာ ကွာခြားတယ်လို့ ပြောနေတာပါ။

• Different: My brother and I have different hobbies. (ငါ့ညီအကိုနဲ့ ငါဟာ အပျော်အပါးတွေ ကွဲပြားကြတယ်။)
• Distinct: The two cultures have distinct traditions. (ယဉ်ကျေးမှုနှစ်ခုဟာ ဓလေ့ထုံးတမ်း ကွဲပြားခြားနားကြတယ်။)
