"Divide" နဲ့ "separate" ဆိုတဲ့ English စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တချို့အခြေအနေတွေမှာ အဓိပ္ပါယ်တူတယ်လို့ ထင်ရပေမယ့် အသုံးပြုပုံမှာတော့ ကွာခြားချက်ရှိပါတယ်။ "Divide" ဆိုတာ တစ်ခုခုကို နှစ်ပိုင်း သို့မဟုတ် ထို့ထက်ပိုပြီး ပိုင်းခြားတာကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ ဒါက တစ်ခုတည်းရှိတဲ့အရာကို ပိုင်းခြားတာဖြစ်ပြီး၊ "separate" ကတော့ နှစ်ခု သို့မဟုတ် ထို့ထက်ပိုတဲ့ အရာတွေကို ခွဲခြားတာ၊ ကွဲအောင်လုပ်တာကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ ပိုင်းခြားတဲ့ ပုံစံကလည်း ကွာခြားပါတယ်။

ဥပမာအားဖြင့် -

• Divide: The teacher divided the class into four groups. (ဆရာမက ကျောင်းသားတွေကို အုပ်စုလေးစု ခွဲခဲ့တယ်။) This refers to splitting one existing group into smaller parts.

• Separate: Please separate the red apples from the green apples. (အစိမ်းရောင် ပန်းသီးတွေနဲ့ အနီရောင် ပန်းသီးတွေကို ခွဲထားပေးပါ။) This refers to separating two already existing groups of apples.

• Divide: We divided the cake equally among ourselves. (ကျွန်တော်တို့ ကိတ်မုန့်ကို တန်းတူ ခွဲဝေစားခဲ့ကြတယ်။) Here, one cake is divided into portions.

• Separate: The police separated the fighting men. (ရဲတွေက လူတွေ ချုပ်တာကို ခွဲခဲ့တယ်။) Here, two groups of fighting men are separated.

• Divide: The river divides the city into two parts. (မြစ်က မြို့ကို နှစ်ပိုင်း ခွဲထားတယ်။) One river divides the city.

• Separate: They separated their property after the divorce. (သူတို့က ကွာရှင်းပြီးနောက် ပိုင်ဆိုင်မှုတွေကို ခွဲခဲ့ကြတယ်။) Two sets of properties are separated.
