"Extend" နဲ့ "lengthen" ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တချို့အခြေအနေတွေမှာ အဓိပ္ပါယ်တူတယ်လို့ ထင်ရပေမယ့် တကယ်တမ်းမှာတော့ သိသိသာသာကွာခြားချက်ရှိပါတယ်။ "Lengthen" ဆိုတာ တစ်ခုခုရဲ့ အရှည်ကို တိုးတဲ့ သဘောပါ။ "Extend" ကတော့ အရှည်တိုးတာအပြင် တခြားအရာတွေကိုလည်း တိုးချဲ့တဲ့သဘောပါ ပါဝင်ပါတယ်။ ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ လမ်းတစ်ခုရဲ့ အရှည်ကို တိုးတာကို "lengthen" သုံးပြီး တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ရဲ့ နေထိုင်ခွင့်ကို တိုးတာကို "extend" သုံးတာမျိုးပါ။

ဥပမာ ၁ - English: We need to lengthen the dress because it's too short. Burmese: ဒီဝတ်စုံက တိုလွန်းလို့ အရှည်တိုးရမယ်။

ဥပမာ ၂ - English: The government extended the deadline for tax payments. Burmese: အစိုးရက အခွန်ပေးဆောင်ရမယ့် နောက်ဆုံးရက်ကို တိုးချဲ့ပေးလိုက်တယ်။

ဥပမာ ၃ - English: He extended his hand to shake mine. Burmese: သူက သူ့လက်ကို ကျွန်တော့်လက်နဲ့ လာဆွဲပါတယ်။ ( ဒီမှာ Extend က လက်ကို ဆန့်တန်းတဲ့ သဘောပါ)

ဥပမာ ၄ - English: The company extended its operations into new markets. Burmese: ကုမ္ပဏီက သူတို့ရဲ့ လုပ်ငန်းတွေကို ဈေးကွက်သစ်တွေဆီ တိုးချဲ့လိုက်တယ်။

ဥပမာ ၅ - English: They lengthened the runway to accommodate larger planes. Burmese: ပိုကြီးတဲ့ လေယာဉ်တွေ ဆင်းသက်နိုင်အောင် လေဆိပ်လမ်းကို အရှည်တိုးလိုက်ကြတယ်။
