“Forbid” နှင့် “prohibit” ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တားမြစ်တာကို ဆိုလိုပေမယ့် သုံးစွဲပုံမှာ sedikit ကွာခြားပါတယ်။ “Forbid” က authority figure တစ်ယောက်က တားမြစ်တာကို ပိုပြီး ဖော်ပြတယ်။ ဥပမာ - My parents forbade me from going to the party. (မိဘတွေက ပါတီသွားတာကို တားမြစ်ခဲ့တယ်။) “Prohibit” ကတော့ rule တစ်ခု ဒါမှမဟုတ် law တစ်ခုက တားမြစ်တာကို ပိုပြီး ဖော်ပြတယ်။ ဥပမာ - Smoking is prohibited in this building. (ဒီအဆောက်အဦးမှာ ဆေးလိပ်သောက်ခြင်းကို တားမြစ်ထားတယ်။)

“Forbid” ကို ပိုပြီး informal setting မှာ သုံးပါတယ်။ ဥပမာ - My teacher forbade me from using my phone in class. (ဆရာမက ကျောင်းမှာ ဖုန်းသုံးတာကို တားမြစ်တယ်။) “Prohibit” ကိုတော့ formal setting မှာ ပိုသုံးပါတယ်။ ဥပမာ - The law prohibits the sale of alcohol to minors. (အရက်ကို ကလေးတွေကို ရောင်းခြင်းကို ဥပဒေက တားမြစ်ထားတယ်။)

“Forbid” နဲ့ “prohibit” နှစ်လုံးစလုံးကို object တစ်ခုနဲ့ သုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။ ဥပမာ - They forbid the use of mobile phones. (သူတို့က မိုဘိုင်းဖုန်းသုံးတာကို တားမြစ်တယ်။) The rules prohibit the use of cameras. (စည်းကမ်းတွေက ကင်မရာသုံးတာကို တားမြစ်တယ်။) ဒါပေမယ့် “forbid” ကို တစ်ခါတလေ subject တစ်ယောက်ကို တိုက်ရိုက် ပြောဆိုဖို့ သုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။ ဥပမာ - I forbid you to do that! (ငါ မင်းကို ဒါလုပ်ရမယ်လို့ တားမြစ်တယ်！) “Prohibit” ကတော့ subject တစ်ယောက်ကို တိုက်ရိုက် ပြောဆိုဖို့ သုံးတာ များသောအားဖြင့် မရှိပါဘူး။

• The school forbids chewing gum. (ကျောင်းက ကြေးစားခြစ်တာကို တားမြစ်တယ်။)
