"Ground" နဲ့ "soil" ဆိုတဲ့ English စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တူညီတဲ့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်တွေ မပါဘူးဆိုတာ သိထားသင့်ပါတယ်။ "Ground" ဆိုတာက မြေကြီးရဲ့ ထိပ်ပိုင်း surface ကို ဆိုလိုတာဖြစ်ပြီး၊ လမ်းလျှောက်လို့ရတဲ့ မြေကြီး၊ အဆောက်အဦးတည်ဆောက်ရာမြေ စတာတွေကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ "Soil" ကတော့ မြေကြီးရဲ့ အောက်ခြေ လွှာတွေ၊ အပင်တွေ ပေါက်ရာ မြေ၊ မြေဆီလွှာ စတာတွေကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ အဓိကကတော့ "ground" က ပိုပြီး general term ဖြစ်ပြီး "soil" က ပိုပြီး specific term ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

ဥပမာ စကားပြောကြည့်ရအောင်-

• The plane landed safely on the ground. (လေယာဉ်ဟာ မြေပြင်ပေါ် လုံခြုံစွာ ဆင်းသက်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။) ဒီမှာ "ground" က မြေကြီးရဲ့ ထိပ်ပိုင်း surface ကို ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

• The children were playing on the ground. (ကလေးတွေဟာ မြေပြင်မှာ ကစားနေကြပါတယ်။) ဒီမှာလည်း "ground" က မြေကြီးရဲ့ ထိပ်ပိုင်း surface ကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။

• The soil is rich in nutrients. (မြေဆီလွှာဟာ အာဟာရဓာတ် ကြွယ်ဝပါတယ်။) ဒီမှာ "soil" က မြေဆီလွှာ၊ အပင်ပေါက်ရာ မြေကို ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

• He dug a hole in the soil to plant a tree. (သူက သစ်ပင်စိုက်ဖို့ မြေထဲမှာ တွင်းတူးခဲ့ပါတယ်။) ဒီမှာလည်း "soil" က မြေဆီလွှာကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။

"Ground" နဲ့ "soil" ကို သုံးတဲ့အခါ အဓိပ္ပါယ် ကွာခြားချက်ကို သတိပြုသင့်ပါတယ်။ "Ground" က ပို general ဖြစ်ပြီး "soil" က ပို specific ဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတာ မမေ့ပါနဲ့။
