"Meet" နဲ့ "encounter" ဆိုတဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တွေ့ဆုံတယ်ဆိုတဲ့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်တူပေမယ့် သုံးစွဲပုံမှာတော့ ကွာခြားချက်တွေရှိပါတယ်။ "Meet" ကတော့ စီစဉ်ထားတဲ့ တွေ့ဆုံမှု ဒါမှမဟုတ် လူတွေအချင်းချင်း တမင်တကြည် တွေ့ဆုံတာကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ "Encounter" ကတော့ မမျှော်လင့်ဘဲ ကြုံတွေ့ရတဲ့ တွေ့ဆုံမှု ဒါမှမဟုတ် မမျှော်လင့်ဘဲ ကြုံတွေ့ရတဲ့ ပြသနာတွေ၊ အခြေအနေတွေကို ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

ဥပမာ -

• Meet: I'm going to meet my friend at the cafe. (ကျွန်တော်/ကျွန်မ က ကဖေးမှာ သူငယ်ချင်းနဲ့ တွေ့ဖို့ သွားမှာပါ) This sentence shows a planned meeting.

• Encounter: I encountered a problem with my computer. (ကျွန်တော်/ကျွန်မ က ကွန်ပျူတာမှာ ပြသနာတစ်ခု ကြုံတွေ့ခဲ့ရတယ်) This sentence describes an unexpected problem.

• Meet: I met my teacher at the market. (ကျွန်တော်/ကျွန်မ က ဈေးမှာ ဆရာ/ဆရာမနဲ့ တွေ့ခဲ့တယ်) This is a chance meeting but not entirely unexpected as you might see your teacher in the local market.

• Encounter: I encountered a bear in the forest. (ကျွန်တော်/ကျွန်မ က တောအုပ်ထဲမှာ 곰 (ကျား) တစ်ကောင်နဲ့ ကြုံတွေ့ခဲ့ရတယ်။) This is an unexpected and potentially dangerous meeting.

"Meet" ကို လူတွေအချင်းချင်း တွေ့ဆုံတဲ့အခါ သုံးနိုင်သလို၊ "encounter" ကိုတော့ လူတွေ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ပြသနာတွေ၊ အခြေအနေတွေနဲ့ မမျှော်လင့်ဘဲ ကြုံတွေ့ရတဲ့အခါမှာ သုံးသင့်ပါတယ်။
