"Mention" နဲ့ "refer" ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တခါတရံမှာ အလားတူ သဘောတရားတွေကို ဖော်ပြနိုင်ပေမယ့် သူတို့ရဲ့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်နဲ့ သုံးစွဲပုံမှာ ကွာခြားချက်တွေ ရှိပါတယ်။ "Mention" ဆိုတာ တစ်ခုခုကို တိုတိုပြောတာ၊ လွှတ်ပြောတာ ကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ တစ်ခုခုကို အသေးစိတ်ရှင်းပြဖို့ မလိုအပ်ဘဲ သတိပေးတာ၊ သတင်းပေးတာ လိုမျိုးပါ။ "Refer" ကတော့ တစ်ခုခုကို တိတိကျကျ ညွှန်းဆိုတာ၊ ကိုးကားတာ ကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ ပိုပြီး တိကျတဲ့ အချက်အလက်တွေကို ထောက်ပြတာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

ဥပမာ -

• Mention: He mentioned the party. (သူက ပါတီအကြောင်း ပြောခဲ့တယ်။) This sentence simply states that he talked about the party, without going into detail. သူက ပါတီအကြောင်း ပြောခဲ့တယ်ဆိုတာကိုပဲ သိရတယ်၊ အသေးစိတ် မသိရဘူး။

• Refer: He referred to the party in his speech. (သူက သူ့စကားပြောမှာ ပါတီကို ထည့်သွင်း ပြောဆိုခဲ့တယ်။) This sentence implies that he talked about the party in a more detailed or specific way, perhaps to support a point he was making. ဒါက သူ့ရဲ့ စကားပြောထဲမှာ ပါတီအကြောင်း အသေးစိတ် ပြောခဲ့တယ်လို့ ဆိုလိုတယ်။

• Mention: She mentioned seeing a cat. (သူမက ကြောင်တစ်ကောင် မြင်တယ်လို့ ပြောခဲ့တယ်။) A brief statement about seeing a cat. ကြောင်တစ်ကောင် မြင်တယ်လို့ တိုတိုပြောတာ။

• Refer: She referred to the specific breed of cat in her report. (သူမက သူမရဲ့ သတင်းထဲမှာ ကြောင်မျိုးစိတ် တိတိကျကျ ဖော်ပြခဲ့တယ်။) She specifically identified the breed. ကြောင်မျိုးစိတ် တိတိကျကျ ဖော်ပြတယ်။

"Mention" ကို သုံးရင် တိုတိုပြောတာ၊ "refer" ကို သုံးရင် တိတိကျကျ ညွှန်းဆိုတာ ဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတာ သတိပြုရမယ်။
