“Reason” နဲ့ “Cause” ဆိုတဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဟာ တခါတရံ မြန်မာလို ဘာသာပြန်ရင် တူညီနေတယ်လို့ ထင်ရပေမယ့် တကယ်တမ်းမှာတော့ သူတို့ရဲ့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်နဲ့ သုံးစွဲပုံတွေမှာ ကွာခြားချက်ရှိပါတယ်။ “Reason” ဆိုတာက explanation ဒါမှမဟုတ် justification ကို ဆိုလိုတာဖြစ်ပြီး “Cause” ကတော့ something that makes something else happen ကို ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

ဥပမာ -

• Reason: He failed the exam because he didn't study. (သူက စာမတွေ့လို့ စာမေးပွဲကျတယ်။) ဒီမှာ “didn’t study” က “failed the exam” ရဲ့ reason ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒါက explanation ပေးတာပါ။

• Cause: The heavy rain caused the flood. (မိုးသည်းသည်းရွာတာကြောင့် ရေကြီးတယ်။) ဒီမှာ “heavy rain” က “flood” ရဲ့ cause ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒါက event တစ်ခုကနေ နောက် event တစ်ခု ဖြစ်ပေါ်လာအောင် လုပ်တဲ့ အရာကို ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာတွေကြည့်ရအောင် -

• Reason: The reason for his anger was her rudeness. (သူဒေါသထွက်ရတဲ့ အကြောင်းအရင်းက သူမရဲ့ ယဉ်ကျေးမှုမရှိတာပဲ။)
• Cause: Smoking can cause lung cancer. (ဆေးလိပ်သောက်တာက ကင်ဆာဖြစ်စေနိုင်တယ်။)

“Reason” ကို ကြိယာအဖြစ်လည်း သုံးနိုင်ပါတယ်။ ဥပမာ - He reasoned that it was better to wait. (သူက စောင့်ရတာ ပိုကောင်းတယ်လို့ တွေးတယ်။)

ဒါကြောင့် “Reason” နဲ့ “Cause” ကို သေချာခွဲခြားသုံးဖို့ လိုအပ်ပါတယ်။ Happy learning!
