အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားလုံး 'rule' နဲ့ 'regulation' နှစ်လုံးဟာ တူညီတဲ့အဓိပ္ပါယ်တွေရှိပေမယ့် သုံးစွဲပုံမှာ ကွာခြားချက်ရှိပါတယ်။ 'Rule' ဆိုတာ ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခုခုအတွက် အခြေခံနည်းဥပဒေ ဒါမှမဟုတ် လမ်းညွှန်ချက်တွေကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ 'Regulation' ဆိုတာကတော့ တစ်ခုခုကို ထိန်းချုပ်ဖို့ သတ်မှတ်ထားတဲ့ စည်းကမ်းတွေကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။

ဥပမာ -

'It's a rule that we must wear uniforms at school.' (ကျောင်းမှာ ယူနီဖောင်းဝတ်ရမယ်ဆိုတာ စည်းကမ်းတစ်ခုပါ။)

'There are regulations on the use of mobile phones in class.' (တန်းခုံမှာ ဖုန်းသုံးစွဲတာနဲ့ ပတ်သက်ပြီး စည်းကမ်းတွေရှိပါတယ်။)

'Rules' က 'regulations' ထက် ပိုပြီး ယေဘုယျအားဖြင့် သုံးစွဲလေ့ရှိပါတယ်။ 'Regulations' က ပိုပြီး တင်းကျပ်တဲ့ စည်းကမ်းတွေကို ဆိုလိုတတ်ပါတယ်။ ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ ကုမ္ပဏီတစ်ခုရဲ့ လုပ်ငန်းလည်ပတ်မှုနဲ့ ပတ်သက်တဲ့ စည်းကမ်းတွေကို 'regulations' လို့ ခေါ်ပါတယ်။

'The company has strict regulations about data protection.' (ဒေတာ ကာကွယ်ရေးနဲ့ ပတ်သက်ပြီး ကုမ္ပဏီမှာ စည်းကမ်းတွေ တင်းကျပ်ပါတယ်။)

'Following the rules is important to maintain order.' (စည်းကမ်းတွေကို လိုက်နာတာက အစီအစဉ်ကို ထိန်းသိမ်းဖို့ အရေးကြီးပါတယ်။)

'Regulations are designed to protect public safety.' (လူထုလုံခြုံရေးကို ကာကွယ်ဖို့ စည်းကမ်းတွေ ချမှတ်ထားတာပါ။)
