English စကားများဖြစ်တဲ့ "verbal" နဲ့ "spoken" ဆိုတာတွေက တူညီတဲ့အဓိပ္ပာယ်ကို ပြသတယ်လို့ ထင်ရပေမယ့် တကယ်တမ်းမှာတော့ သူတို့ကြားမှာ ကွာခြားချက်တွေ ရှိပါတယ်။ "Spoken" ဆိုတာက တကယ်တမ်း ပြောဆိုနေတဲ့ စကားကို ဆိုလိုတာဖြစ်ပြီး "verbal" ဆိုတာကတော့ နှုတ်ဖြင့်ပြောဆိုတဲ့ နည်းလမ်းအားလုံးကို ဆိုလိုတာပါ။ ဒါကြောင့် "verbal" ဆိုတာ "spoken" ထက် ပိုပြီး ကျယ်ပြန့်တဲ့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရှိပါတယ်။ written communication (ရေးသားပြောဆိုခြင်း) လည်း verbal communication (နှုတ်ဖြင့်ပြောဆိုခြင်း) ပါဝင်ပါသည်။

ဥပမာအားဖြင့် -

• Spoken: He gave a spoken presentation. (သူက နှုတ်ဖြင့် တင်ပြခဲ့တယ်။) This refers only to speech. (ဒါက စကားပြောခြင်းကိုသာ ဆိုလိုတယ်။)

• Verbal: He gave a verbal agreement. (သူက နှုတ်အားဖြင့် သဘောတူညီခဲ့တယ်။) This could be spoken or written, but emphasizes the communication method. (ဒါက နှုတ်ဖြင့်ပြောခြင်း ဒါမှမဟုတ် ရေးသားခြင်း ဖြစ်နိုင်ပေမယ့် ဆက်သွယ်ရေးနည်းလမ်းကို အလေးပေးဖော်ပြတယ်။)

Another example:

• Spoken: The instructions were spoken clearly. (ညွှန်ကြားချက်များကို ရှင်းလင်းစွာ ပြောဆိုခဲ့သည်။)

• Verbal: The verbal instructions were easy to follow. (နှုတ်ဖြင့် ပေးအပ်သော ညွှန်ကြားချက်များသည် လိုက်နာရန်လွယ်ကူသည်။) This could mean the instructions were spoken, written, or even signed. (ဒါက ညွှန်ကြားချက်တွေက နှုတ်ဖြင့်ပြောခြင်း၊ ရေးသားခြင်း ဒါမှမဟုတ် လက်ရေးမြစ်ပြခြင်းတွေ ဖြစ်နိုင်ပါတယ်)
